Supercedure is the process by which honeybees replace a failing queen. A queen cell is built - usually just one - most often in a recess in the middle of a comb. When the new queen emerges, she will mate and begin laying eggs while her mother is still alive and the two queens will often work together for a few weeks until the old queen is no longer viable, when her workers will cease to feed her.
